Highland Eastern founded in 1831 - first Society bottling in 1992Located just south of Peterhead, close to the sea, this was the most easterly of the distilleries in Scotland. It was rebuilt with unusual cast-iron frames in 1873, but its buildings have now been converted to other uses. After several changes of ownership pre-World War I, it was bought by Long John Distillers in 1956, joined Whitbread with them in 1975 and was promptly sold to a consortium of oil men the same year. It never resumed production.
