Highland Island founded 1885 - first Society bottling in 1985The other Orkney distillery™, which overlooks Scapa Flow, the watery grave of the German High Seas Fleet, was described in 1887 'as one of the most complete in the kingdom™', and was one of the most up-to-date of its day. In 1959 the wash still was replaced by a Lomond still. The distillery was mothballed in 1994, but is now back in production.
