Lowland founded 1817 - first Society bottling in 1987The southernmost distillery in Scotland draws its water from the river of the same name. Closed 1938-56, it passed to DCL and was closed again in 1993. It was bought by an Irish builder, Raymond Armstrong, and opened as a heritage centre. Its former owners allowed Mr Armstrong to resume (limited) production in 1997.
