Rules of membership

1. Subject to Rules 16 and 17 below, membership is open to all individuals aged 18 years or over wishing to indulge their passion and increase their knowledge of whisky.

2. To ensure continuation of membership/s, a subscription fee is payable by each Member annually. If your membership lapses for whatever reason, upon re-subscribing to the Society, you will be required to pay an additional re-join fee.

3. Members are required to swipe their membership cards to gain entrance to Society venues where appropriate. Members will be asked to sign in both themselves and guests at all of the Society's Members' Rooms.

Members should ensure they carry their membership card with them at all times.

4. Membership cards and membership numbers are for members' personal use only and cannot be transferred or shared.

5. Individual Members may bring up to a maximum of three guests when visiting any one of the Society's Members' Rooms.

Additional Cardholder Members may bring a maximum of three guests per card to the Society's Members' Rooms.

7. Whilst there is no restriction on how many guests a Member may take into the Dining Room at 28 Queen Street, please note that access to the Members' Rooms will still be restricted to three guests per Member or cardholder.

8. When visiting a venue or attending a tasting, we ask that Members' guests complete a visitor's form. The information on these forms will not be shared with any party outwith the Society and its associated undertakings.

9. Whisky purchased from the Society is only for the personal consumption of Members and, of course, their friends and family. Society products are not for retail or resale.

10. The Society can deliver whisky and point of sale items to anywhere with a UK address. Additional charges apply for non-mainland UK addresses. We cannot send whisky overseas.

11. Case discounts apply when ordering 6 bottles or multiples thereof which are being delivered to the same address.

12. Members may book events in any of the venues but we ask that the member who made the booking be present at the event. This also applies to Members' tastings in the venue or any of the external tastings listed in our tasting programme throughout the UK.

13. Whilst Members may use their membership to book corporate events, please note that the booking will be made in the individual's name and payment of the event will be required as in the Terms and Conditions. Any bar or beverage bills incurred on the night must be paid for by the Member prior to his/her departure. All events receipts will be forwarded solely to the Member. Please note that Members will be required to swipe their card and/or sign in their guests.

14. Full payment of private events must be received by the Society in advance of the event. The Member who booked the event is solely responsible for making this payment in full.

15. Bookings for tastings, private events or hire of the apartments may be cancelled but please refer to the specific booking conditions for each of these. Failure to inform us of a cancellation by the specified date will result in either the deposit fee being kept by the Society or the ticket price will be non-refundable.

16. The Society reserves the right to refuse membership.

17. The Society reserves the right to cancel membership at any time.

18. The Society reserves the right to refuse access to any of its Members' Rooms or venues, or serve alcohol to any Member, or guest of a Member whose behaviour causes concern.

19. On any occasion when a Members' Room is full to capacity, for Members' safety, we may restrict access to that Members' Room.

20. It is a Member's responsibility to advise us of any change of his/her address. The Society will not be held responsible for any issues arising (directly or indirectly) from the failure of a Member to provide this information.

21. A Member's bar tabs must be settled by that Member prior to departing the Members' Rooms.

22. No business meetings are allowed in any of the Society's Members' Rooms. Private rooms are available for hire at each of the venues.

23. Use of laptops, mobile phones, personal stereos or hand held games machines are not allowed in Members Rooms' bars and communal areas.

24. Smoking is not permitted in any of the Society venues.

25. The Society does not allow 'stag' or 'hen' night parties.
