16.29 Old encyclopaedias in a Chinese supermarket
Cask No. 16.29
This very interesting nose had putty, plywood and nail polish, then onion chutney and marmalade with solid lines of spice running through (clove, mint, cinnamon, gingerbread). The palate was definitely unusual, with star-fruit, cranberry and blackcurrant jam against milk chews and butterscotch, then tart spices drying the mouth afterwards. The reduced nose was quite fascinating, with dried grass, dried flowers, dried orange peel, old encyclopaedias, polished leather, burnt paper and Chinese supermarkets (five spice powder). The reduced palate became succulent and juicy (grapefruit, pear, blood orange) with mild spice and smoke on the finish. Claims to be Scotland’s oldest distillery.
