29.81 Asterix and Obelix come to supper

Cask No. 29.81

Notwithstanding some citric fizz, the nose was fundamentally one of deep dark aromas – raw smoke, creosote, liquorice, harbours (fish, seaweed on stones) and engine oil; perhaps even burnt rubber and silage. What about the palate? – Undoubtedly mouth-roasting and challenging, with its barbecued pork ribs, strong pepper and cigarette ash. On the reduced nose, we glimpsed vanilla and heather flowers, hiding behind a wall of dark smoke, ashes and burnt pork. The palate managed to balance sweet lavender with an Asterix supper of roasted wild boar. Some panellists loved it, some did not. The only whisky allowed into America during prohibition.
