4.165 Soft peat and seaside piers
Cask No. 4.165
First impressions of linseeds, window putty and mixed nut cracknel gave way to seaside piers, soft Orcadian peat, toffee nougat, cut grass and waxy heather. A chewy taste of toffee crisp, soft heather, mint hot chocolate, Murray mints with saccharin bitterness and a minerally peat heat left the Panel pleasantly surprised. With water (although the Panel agreed it didn’t need it) the nose now became milder (one Panellist remarked she got a whiff of soft strong goat’s cheese), heather, toffee, nougat, peardrops and warm engines were more familiar. The palate was creamy, sweet, mild and salty with seaweed, Caramac bars and more toffee. From Orkney’s largest distillery.
