The nose had a malty, chocolate nature (Mars bars, Caramac, Maltesers, Horlicks, caramel) but with undercurrents of very dark marmalade, burnt mincemeat pies, matches, leather and “treacle on old sandshoes”. The unreduced palate elicited at least on “Woweee!” with its massive impact of orange peel and sugared fennel seeds; the Whisky-scientist identified “rubber – but in a nice way”. The reduced nose had clean oil, citrus and honey-glazed ham. The palate, an elegantmix of sweet and savoury, evoked sherry and griddle fresh drop scones, leaving a meteor trail of flavours in its celestial wake. The distillery has connections with house-martins.
