Get into the Festival Spirit – Society Style
Tuesday 28 July 2009
Sat 8-Sun 31 August
With Festival madness about to descend on the capital, The Scotch Malt Whisky Society is the perfect sanctuary for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle.
The Festival month in August is the only time the Society opens its doors(and bottles) to members, non-members and future members alike, inviting guests to attend an action-packed programme of Tutored Tastings at its internationally-renowned Edinburgh venues at The Vaults and 28 Queen Street.
The programme of Tutored Tastings will run from Saturday 8 August to Monday 31 August, where a Society expert guide will take guests through three of the Society’s one-of-a-kind drams – giving them the chance to taste and explorte some of the world’s finest single cask, single malt whiskies.
So what makes Society’s single cask, single malt whisky so special? In the last 25 years, the Society has built an international reputation as the source of the finest and most exclusive single cask, single malt whiskies available anywhere in the world. Only the very best single cask single malt whiskies make the cut, following a rigorous approval process by the Society's respected Tasting Panel. The Society bottles more than 200 single casks every year from a range of 125 distilleries.
Kai Ivalo, Director at The Scotch Malt Whisky Society, said: “August is an exciting time in Edinburgh and we’re pleased to offer something completely different at our Members’ Rooms, where Festival-goers can take some time out in a relaxed environment and enjoy a dram. Whether you’re a whisky novice or a true aficionado, the Society has something for everyone.”
Tickets cost £15 for non-members and £12 for members . Non-member tickets include a day pass to The Vaults and 28 Queen Street, allowing guests to take a peek behind those Members’ Room doors, enjoying a fleeting taste of the Society’s wonders.
As an added incentive, guests that bring 10 friends to one of the Festival tastings events will receive a free Society membership.
Anyone joining the Society in August will also receive a free ticket to one of the Tutored Tastings – the perfect introduction to a whole new world of whisky.
