James Zorab, a Society ambassador at the Members’ Rooms at 28 Queen Street in Edinburgh, was thrown a curve ball recently, when Sri Lankan cricket star and former captain of the national side, Kumar Sangakkara, dropped by to ask his advice on starting a whisky collection.Having visited the previous day for a dram, Kumar returned with a daunting assignment for James; to scour the Society stores for
the perfect foundation selection. James said: “I picked out as broad a range of styles and distilleries as I could, including some rarer
bottlings, like the award-winning Cask No. 104.13 ‘An angel fallen to Earth’, which is from a closed distillery, and Cask No.
35.55 ‘Balmy evenings in hot tubs’, which is a 39 year old.
Kumar really appreciates his whisky and is very knowledgeable about it.”
