Shedding light on distillation date

Friday 14 October 2011

In addition to the standard age statement, all Society bottlings will in future include a precise distillation date on the label. While several distilleries sell expressions from a specific year, these are likely to be made up from a combination of casks, distilled over the course of that year.

By offering members only single cask, single malt whiskies, the Society can say exactly when a dram was born. Kai Ivalo, the Society’s director, said: “It’s a subtle change to the label, which speaks volumes about the unique character of every Society bottling. “I think it also adds something quite personal too; knowing that a whisky is nine years old is quite different to thinking back to an exact date and wondering what you might have been doing on the day it emerged from the still. It’s an extra bit of detail we hope members will enjoy.”
